| | Greetings- I too have spent some time researching the Juster family name. It is ironic that our last name is rooted in some different ethnic cultures. My great-great grandfather was originally from the Azores, the small islands off of Portugal. He is Portuguese. My great grandfather, Manuel and great grandmother, Philemena, were born in Hawaii, in the late 1800's. He worked the sugar plantations. His original surname has remained a mystery. It was either Gesta or Jiesta. We believe it changed when he arrived in Hawaii. Manuel past away during the turn of the century after fathering two children, one of which my Dads father, Peter. Peter father several children one my dad, Clarence who lives in the central California area. We live in Oregon. | ![]() |
| | Interesting footnote. We bumped into a couple in Ashland, Oregon some years back that were Juster's and of Romanian heritage. What made this interesting was that her first name and my wife's first name (Susan) were the same and the hotel gave our room to the other Susan and her husband. We briefly talked but never kept in touch. I regret that. Have fun with your search. |

| | Subject: some more justers...united states hi my name is Leora, my mother is Deborah Juster, and the man she calls her father, Norm Juster(even though he's really her stepdad) are all with the last name Juster. Interestingly so, Norm's cousin or uncle, Norton Juster, wrote the very famous book that was made into a movie, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_Tollbooth |
| | UK Justers Dear David, I have recently been in contact with Melanie Walters who put me onto the Juster site. My husband is the grandson of Bertha Jane Juster. Bertha Jane Juster was born in 1867 in Mitcham Surrey. She married Frederick Meredith James Hooper of Romsey, Hants and they had 10 children the 7th being my mother-in-law. Bertha was the 7th child of James Richard Juster 1829 and Jane Comber 1830 who married on 27th January 1855. James’ father, grandfather and great grandfather were given to me by Trefor Roscoe who has links back through James Richard Juster 1859-1915, Bertha’s brother. have done little work on this side of our family so haven’t got too far back. It is fascinating to see the number of different countries that the Justers come from. I will visit the site often. Keep up the good work, Helen Dudley- dudleys@warwick2004.eclipse.co.uk |
